Entry form is now posted!

Thank you to those of you who have already expressed interest in submitting an entry!  I'm happy to say that thanks to the automagic of Google docs, there is now an entry form posted for you to use.  Take a look at the tab at the top of this blog titled, funnily enough, "Entry Form"!

It includes explicit instructions, but if you have any questions, please feel free to add a comment to this post and I can help answer.

Call to artists - "your favorite Austin spot" could be published in book!

We are making a call to artists in all 2-d media to submit entries for inclusion in a book with a working title of "Artist Insider - Austin, Texas".  The book will include paintings, sketches, and other artwork, each image depicting the individual artist's favorite local Austin place, a quotation from the artist about why he or she chose that place for their art piece and why it deserves a visit, and a brief bio of the artist.

Imagine a collection of great paintings, drawings, pastels and watercolors of the "Hey Cupcake" truck, the 360 bridge, Zilker Park, Lady Bird Lake, the Pink Poodle, Top Notch burgers - well, the possibilities are endless!  (You can see how my favorites trend toward food spots!)

Austin is known for promoting the home-grown over the plastic and heartless - and it attracts visitors who love Austin for just that reason.

A South-by-Southwest hipster doesn't want a stuffed armadillo made in China to remind them of their trip!  No, they want an awesome book of Austin-made art showing great Austin places!

So, start noodling on what you'd like to depict as your favorite Austin spot and get creating.  Watch this blog and we'll have instructions on how to submit your entry soon!

The entries will require a submission fee of $20 and will be juried for inclusion.  (More detail on the member of our jury coming soon - but rest assured they will all be Austin-based visual artists of note!)   You, the artist, do not necessarily need to currently reside in Austin, but you should have first-hand experience of the place you are depicting and have gathered all of the source material for your work yourself.  (In other words, we won't consider an entry from someone who hasn't been to Austin or creates a painting from a photograph taken by someone else.)

Artists chosen for inclusion in the book will receive a free copy, great publicity, and bragging rights on inclusion in a juried publication.

Deadline for entries is September 30, 2010.
